At school, he played bass for a group called Zinx. He began creating music at the tender age of ten and had his first major commercial success with the release of “3” when he was twenty-one. At Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, K.K. Nagar, he served as the school’s Pupil Leader (Head Boy). In 2011, he earned a degree from Loyola College in Chennai as a fallback plan in case his music career tanked. Anirudh earned a diploma in sound engineering from soundtech-media and studied piano at London’s prestigious Trinity College of Music. Furthermore, he was a member of a fusion band that drew inspiration from Carnatic music, which he had studied. Anirudh had competed in a TV show judged by A back when they were both in school. R. Rahman and his band were among the six successful acts. Anirudh’s sister, Vaishnavi, is a lawyer and she and her husband, Abhinav, live in London. Vaishnavi’s brother, Aditya, is a singer. In 3, directed by Anirudh’s cousin Aishwarya R. Dhanush and starring Dhanush, Anirudh made his debut as a music composer. Background music for Aishwaryaa’s short films were done by him while he was a student at Loyola College, and the quality of his work impressed Aishwaryaa enough that she hired him to assist with her first foray into the commercial sector. A song from the film Why This Kolaveri Di! was leaked in early November of 2011. , went viral on the internet, and on November 16, 2011, the film’s creators decided to make it available to the public. The catchy kuthu sounds and endearing “Tanglish” (a mashup of Tamil and English) ensured the song’s quick success on social media. The song quickly became viral in India, becoming the site’s most-searched video in the country.
The video became so popular so quickly that YouTube awarded it two medals: a gold for “Recently Most Popular” and a silver for “Trending” within a matter of weeks. South Indian folk rhythms served as the foundation for this song’s arrangement. Nádaswaram, shehnai, saxophone, urumee, thavil drums, acoustic guitar, keyboards, and a few electronic synths and scratches make up the rest of the instrumentation.
