Verdict
Freddy movie starts slowly establishing the character of Freddy and takes more time to showcase the daily routine of this character. As the time taken for these scenes is longer, it makes audience lack the interest within a few minutes. The movie picks up the pace interesting only when the dark side of Freddy is presented on screen. Though there are a few scenes that look interesting and have the scope to bring the chills down our spine, we might feel that something went wrong that made these scenes look very average. It is difficult to identify what went wrong with the scenes as they do not create any impact even though the movie is of the thriller genre. The climax of the movie is also predictable that is even executed very averagely.
When it comes to actor’s performances, the major part of this movie is run on the character ‘Freddy’ played by Kartik Aaryan. A video was released by the team a few days before the movie release showcasing the transformation of Kartik Aaryan as Freddy. Though their physical transformation of Kartik is appreciable, their performance is not up to the mark. Freddy character has so much scope to perform showcasing different shades in him and emotions that could create a solid impact, but the performance of Kartik Aaryan did not create that impact needed for the character and he looks very artificial in many scenes. Alaya is okay in her limited role and all other actors did their part in their short roles offered to them.
Technically Freddy movie looks good. The music and background score composed by Pritam is one of the major highlights in this movie. Especially background music of the movie makes the scene more interesting and adds to the dark mood. The cinematography by Ayananka Bose looks good for a few scenes and a few scenes have very routine framing. The editing is good with no unnecessary scenes. Production values are high.
Director Shashanka Ghosh, who already had digitally released a movie this year with ‘Plan A Plan B’ was once again disappointed with his making. Though the movie has a simple plot, he could have made the movie interesting by concentrating more on Freddy character and writing some interesting characters surrounding the character.
Overall, Freddy is an average thriller that can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar for this weekend. There are very few scenes that make this movie interesting to watch.
