Verdict

Mystery and crime thrillers are always the leading genres in India, as most of the Indian movies that are made on this genres always entertained the audience. Gaslight has all the elements that could make the audience watch till the end, but also has few flaws that breaks the interest on the movie. Movie begins without any dragged scenes and directly gets into the point.

Few scenes in the first half of the movie are routine, but creates doubt on each character that are related to missing of Sara Ali Khan’s father in the movie. Movie tries to continue the mystery interestingly to some extent, but disappoints a little bit in the later part. Climax of the movie is not so appealing.

While it comes to performances, Sara Ali Khan once again gave her best and she looks okay in the role of Meesha, however she needs to work a little more on her expressions. Vikrant Massey once again stole the show with the clean and neat performance. Chitrangada Singh, though appeared on screen after a gap, did her character with ease. Akshya Oberoi, Rahu Dev and all other actors did their part well as required for the characters.

Technically Gaslight movie looks good. Background music composed by Gaurav Chatterjee is good and apt for the mood of the movie genre. Cinematography by Ragul Dharuman is decent, but visuals look much darker than required for a thriller. Production values are okay.

Director Pavan Kripalani, who is an expert in handling thriller and horror movies was able to keep audience intrigued till some extent, but failed to do so completely till the end.

Overall, Gaslight movie is a decent mystery thriller with some thrilling moments here and there. You can definitely stream this movie on Hotstar for this weekend.
