Govinda Naam Mera Movie Review: Talented actor Vicky Kaushal is last seen in theatres with his movie “Bhoot- Part 1” and his movie ‘Sardar Udham’ is directly premiered on Prime video. After almost one year of gap, he is now coming up with the movie titled ‘Govinda Naam Mera’. However, even this movie has skipped the theatrical release and available for streaming on Hotstar from today. Let us get into the detailed review of this movie to know, if this movie is as entertaining as the movie title.
Story
Govinda Waghmare is a struggling choreographer in Hindi film industry and not respected by his wife Gauri calling him good for nothing, despite his efforts. Govinda also falls for another girl Sukubhai Deshmukh, who is also a struggling choreographer like him. After few incidents, Govinda decides to leave Gauri and marry Sukubhai, but situations take unexpected turn after Govinda is made prime suspect in a murder.

Verdict
Hindi film industry has been facing some hard time since few months and many movies have been washed out at the box-office with very poor content and viewers are not showing any interest to watch Hindi movies in theatres. Govinda Naam Mera makers could have though of the same and might have released this movie on OTT. As said by the makers this movie is made for general public who love to watch mass entertainers that offer comedy, songs, fights, twists and everything in one movie.
Story of this movie is very simple and even the comedy scenes will make us feel bored, though actors performed well in few scenes. Few one liners will make us chuckle but the overall comedy in the movie is not that impressive and this continues till the climax leading to some expected twists that we have seen earlier in many movies. Shoot of this movie was actually started in 2019 and we might feel that this story actually is way old that was written to suit those days.
While it comes to acting performances, Vicky Kaushal has done a good job as Govinda Waghmare, but the character design is not up to the mark of this brilliant actor. Bhumi Pednekar has been choosing different subjects and characters right from the beginning, but her expressions, performance might feel routine from her last few movies. Kiara Advani role is more of a glamour doll and has limited scope to perform. Dayanand Shetty, Sayaji Shinde and all other actors did their part as required for the story.
Technically Govinda Naam Mera movie looks okay. Songs composed by different music directors Meet Bros, Tanishk Bagchi, B Praak, Sachin-Jigar, Rochak Kohli are okay and they could have been better if we might have watched this movie in theatres. Cinematography by Vidhushi Tiwari also looks average, but the songs are well picturized and look colorful. Production values are good.
Director Shashank Khaitan, who earlier delivered ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Dhadak’ is not that impressive with ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ which offers a whole lot of elements in a single movie that are poorly executed. Apart from few good scenes here & there, Shashank haven’t shown any impact in complete movie.
Overall, Govinda Naam Mera is an outdated mass entertainer with few gags. You can stream this movie on Hotstar, if you have no other choice.
