Joju George is the son of George Parecattil and Rosy George, both of whom hail from the Mala area of Thrissur. He attended Kuzhur’s GHS. He got his education at Christ College, Irinjalakuda, and then went on to work as an assistant director in the film industry (1997). He tied the knot with Abba Joju in 2008, and the couple now has three kids: Ian, Sarah, and Ivan.

On the film Mazhavilkoodaram in 1995, Joju made his debut in a junior artist role. Over the course of the 2000s and 2010s, he became a household name thanks to a string of supporting roles. For his supporting parts in Oru Second Class Yathra and Lukka Chuppi, he was honoured with a Special Mention at the 2015 Kerala State Film Award ceremony. Joseph (2018, M. Padmakumar, dir. ), in which he played a retired police officer investigating a personal case while confronting demons of his own, was the breakthrough role of his career. Joju won his second Kerala State Film Award that year, this time for Best Character Actor in Joseph and the film Chola. The film also received a special mention at the National Film Awards that year. Films like Porinju Mariam Jose, Halal Love Story, Jagame Thanthiram, Pada, and Aviyal have followed. In that year, he won Best Actor at the Kerala State Film Awards for his performances in the films Nayattu, Madhuram, and Freedom Fight. He will have contributed to over a hundred films by 2022.
Joju has been acknowledged as a playback vocalist for the songs Paadavarambathiloode from Joseph, Chandrakaladharane from Adrishyam, and Kallatharam from Peace, in addition to his roles as actor and producer.
In 2021, he made his acting debut in the Netflix film Jagame Thanthiram, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, in which he costarred with Dhanush. His second role in the language was in the Amazon Original series Mouname Paarvayaai, which was a part of the Tamil anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa.
