Ranaut enrolled in Asha Chandra’s Bollywood acting class in 2004. After that, she left for Bollywood in Mumbai. Anurag Basu cast her in the lead role of his upcoming film Gangster after discovering her in a Mumbai cafe in September 2005. The film was a commercial success. After that, she acted in the film Woh Lamhe.
The next year, in 2007, she appeared in the films Life in a Metro and Shakalaka Boom Boom. After that, she acted in the 2008 film Fashion, for which she won both the Filmfare and the National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Aside from the three National Film Awards and the four Filmfare Awards she has received numerous more honours.

Kangana Ranaut is been in the news more with the controversies surrounding her than with her movies that got released recently. She is producing a film ‘Tiku Weds Sheru’ starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role and directing a movie ‘Emergency’, in which she is playing the role of the late Indira Gandhi.
