He has joined hands with Mammootty for the first time with the movie titled ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ that has released in the theatres today. Story
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is about the things that happened in Jameson’s life. After visiting Velankanni (Tamilnadu), a group of Malayali tourists take a bus back to Kerala. James pulls the bus over in a village in the countryside of Tamil Nadu. After lunch, the tourists take a nap in that village. Soon Jameson starts to act like a lost traveler. He starts to act and talk like a Tamil. He says he is Sundaram, a person who lives in the area. This confuses everyone who travelled with him and the people who live in the village. The rest of the story is about why he acts the way he does and what Jameson has done in the village.

Verdict
Choosing a simple point and making it look extra-ordinary is something that Lijo Jose Pellissery is known for in Malayalam film industry. ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ has very simple story line, but what makes it special is the treatment from director. We see the characters on screen more than actors from this beautifully presented movie.
‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ movie mostly focuses on the characters than the story and screenplay, but keeps us engaged in the movie with unknown thrill that will be revealed by the end of the movie. If you are a Malayalam movie lover and has been watching these movies in theatres for long time, you will not be disappointed with this movie throughout the running minutes. If a new person, who haven’t watched many Malayalam movies watch this movie, they might feel the boredom.
While it comes to acting performances, Mammootty is the show stealer in this slow paced drama movie. Despite of his age, Mammootty gave his best in the role offered to him and lifted the whole movie on his shoulders with his powerful performance. Ramya Pandian, Poo Raman were decent in their roles and all other actors did their part well as required for the characters offered to them.
Technically Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam looks very good. Lijo Jose Pellissery movies are always praised for the sound design and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam will surely be praised once again for the sound design that is provided by Renganath Ravee and cinematography by Theni Eswar is another major highlight with some beautiful landscapes. Production values are good.
Director Lijo Jose Pellissery has shown the other side of his direction with this movie. He made few movies like ‘Ee. Ma. Yau’ that produced comedy in serious situations and the same can be observed in this movie, were director tried to bring out the comedy in serious situations.
Overall, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is typical Lijo Jose Pellissary movie that can be watched in theatres for his unique style of film making and wonderful performance from Mammootty.
