Verdict

Qala movie will take us to a different world from the very first scene. Though the plot of this movie looks very simple, the way it was executed with some brilliant technical support makes this movie an interesting watch this weekend. Slow narration might feel like a speed breaker for few viewers, but that slow narration implemented in this movie is to establish the emotions of the characters and drive the story forward. The pain, confusion, fear all these emotions are very well included in the story and executed brilliantly on screen. Though there are few flaws here and there, movie will definitely make us watch till the end with its different making and technical brilliance.

While it comes to acting performances, Tripti Dimri once again proved her mettle as an actress with the role of Qala that has scope for showcasing different emotions. She also looks very beautiful in different costumes with vintage looks. Babil Khan also did his part very well along with Amit Sial, who is brilliant as always with eyes filled of many emotions. Swastika Mukherjee as Urmila is another brilliant casting in the movie and her character drives the Qala characters emotions throughout the movie. All other actors did their part well as required for the proceedings.

Technically Qala is brilliant. Songs composed by Sagar Desai, Amit Trivedi are soulful and the background music of this movie will definitely take the audience into the mood of this movie. Cinematography by Siddharth Diwan is another major highlight of this movie. Every frame in the movie feels like a painting with some wonderful lighting. Another department that should be appreciated is art department, who made possible to recreate the vintage magic with their art work. Production values of this movie are very good. Editing of the movie could have been better.

Director Anvita Dutt Guptan, who impressed earlier with ‘Bulbbul’ once again came up with the same team and made another interesting project that looks brilliant technically. But the narration of this movie may not entertain few section of audience and the slow pace of the movie will definitely impact the viewers, though it was required for the story she chose.

Overall, Qala is an interesting and technically brilliant movie that should be streamed on Netflix, if you are a movie lover and can be able to take more drama.
