A seasoned actor, Rajkummar made his film debut in Dibakar Banerjee’s 2010 experimental anthology Love Sex Aur Dhokha. Rajkummar starred opposite Neha Chauhan in the “Paap Ki Dukaan” segment of the anthology. At its premiere, the film received rave reviews and was deemed a financial success. Then, in 2011, he appeared in Ekta Kapoor’s found-footage horror film Ragini MMS. The film opened to mostly positive reviews and a large audience. Before he finally broke through, he appeared in several supporting roles in films like the 2011 crime drama Shaitan, the 2012 sequel Gangs of Wasseypur: Part 2, the 2013 action film Chittagong, and the 2015 psychological horror film Talaash: The Answer Lies Within.
In 2013, Rajkummar made his long-awaited debut in the lead role of Abhishek Kapoor’s buddy drama Kai Po Che!, alongside Amit Sadh and Sushant Singh Rajput. He received numerous accolades for his performance as Govind and was even nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Rajkummar’s performance as the title character in Hansal Mehta’s biographical picture Shahid earned him not just the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor but also the National Film Award for Best Actor, following the success of his previous project.
