Shukla was born in Gorakhpur to Jogamaya Shukla, India’s first female tabla player, and Shatrughan Shukla, a singer from the Agra Gharana. When he was two, his family moved to Delhi. The beautiful and populous city of Uttar Pradesh is Gorakhpur, located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Saurabh Shukla started his early career as a film director after finishing his formal education.

A View From the Bridge (Arthur Miller), Look Back in Anger (John Osborne), Ghashiram Kotwal (Vijay Tendulkar), and Hayvadan were just a few of the plays in which Shukla made his theatrical debut in 1986. To further his acting career, he enrolled at the National School of Drama’s professional branch, the NSD Repertoire Company, in 1991. Shekhar Kapur saw some potential in him and cast him in a role for Bandit Queen the following year. Shukla also appeared alongside Vijay Anand as his sidekick Gopi in the 1994 Doordarshan criminal drama Tehkikaat. Though Karan Razdan directed the rest of the episodes in the series, Kapur was in charge of the pilot. Zee TV’s 9 Malabar Hill featured both his writing and acting. On Doordarshan TV in the ’90s, he had a brief but recurrent role as Aamir’s jasoos (chieftain’s spy) in the serial Mulla Nasiruddin starring Raghubir Yadav. The legend of Mulla Nasiruddin served as the inspiration for the show. In addition, Shukla appears in the comedic pieces 2 to Tango, and 3 to Jive.
