The movie is set up in a fictional city named Kaza, and the backdrop of the movie is something we have seen earlier in many movies. Though the story is so simple and looks old it is the emotional content of the movie that will connect with the audience and make them hooked to the movie till the last minute. The first few minutes of the film are used to make the audience understand the fictional world created and the characters are introduced with the scenes that elevate their nature, only then the movie gets into the exact plot and from then on, everything falls in place and makes us stick to the movie till the end.

Ranbir plays two roles as father and son who fights against the odds and becomes a leader. However, his look as father Shamshera looks natural, but the look of the son character with the mustache and beard looks artificial and anyone can clearly understand it was just makeup. Vaani Kapoor looks glamorous and had a minimal screen presence. Sanjay Dutt once again plays a ruthless character and impresses with his styling and performance, all the other actors did their part well as needed for the proceedings.

Mithoon impresses with his background score and songs, Anay Goswamy gets the right visuals as required for the story that looks rustic. Yash Raj films never disappoint with their production values and they have not compromised for this project as well. Karan Malhotra who is well known for his films Agneepath and Brothers once again took a simple plot and depended more on emotions between the characters.

Finally, Shamshera can be definitely watched in theatres for its rich production values and stellar performances from the lead cast.
