Verdict
After the huge success of Bahubali across different languages in India, now producers are gutsy enough to set few unexpected combinations to make movies. When Dhanush announced that he is uniting with Venky Atluri for a movie, expectations have already raised as both are from different film industries. These expectations make us watch the movie with a very positive note.
But after the movie starts, we forget about the combination and start feeling the boredom with some very uninteresting scenes that proceed until the interval. Even though the core point of the story is interesting, the way it is presented on screen with many unwanted scenes in the first half will make us exhausted. Movie only picks up its pace in second half and loses the path after few scenes again. With an expected climax movie ends on a simple note.
While it comes to acting performances, actor Dhanush is good in the role of Balamurugan, but we might feel the character doesn’t offer him the space to perform more. He could have done more, if his character was well written. Samyukta is not up to mark, she diappoints with her performance, even though she has limited screen time. Samuthirakani has impressed once again in a negative role. Actor Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani and others did their part as required for the characters.
Technically Vaathi movie looked very average. Songs composed by GV Prakash Kumar are not memorable and we might get used to this songs if we hear them in loop. Cinematography by J Yuvraj is also not up to the expectations. Few dialogues are well written. Production values are good.
Director Venky Atluri who is an expert in dealing the youthful love stories has tried something new for the first time. But he could have focused a little more on the writing, as most the scenes look very boring. He disappointed once again after “Rang De.”
Overall, Vaathi is a simple action drama with a message. You can watch this movie in theatres for Dhanush and the core point of the story.
