Before becoming an actor, Vicky chose to work behind the scenes instead, and he became an assistant to Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap when he worked on the films Gangs of Wasseypur (2010) and its sequel, Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Vicky was Kashyap’s assistant on Gangs of Wasseypur, while Neeraj Ghaywan was also an assistant director on the film. Neeraj invited Vicky to audition for a role in his upcoming film Masaan. Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize in the Un Certain Regard division and the ‘Promising Future’ prize (Prix de l’avenir) for debut films, Masaan also starred Richa Chadda, Sanjay Mishra, and Pankaj Tripathi.
