At the tender age of 16, Vidya Balan began her acting career on television in Ekta Kapoor’s hit show Hum Paanch. She was an ambitious actress who worked hard and strived to break into films, and she did just that with the Bengali film Bhalo Theko. When she was 16, she got her start on Ekta Kapoor’s Hum Paanch as Radhika, but she put her studies first. Beginning her career in 2003 with the Bengali film Bhalo Theko, Vidya rose to prominence with the release of her first film in Bollywood, Parineeta, starring alongside Hollywood heavyweights Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan.
She appeared opposite Sanjay Dutt in the 2006 comedy Lage Raho Munna Bhai and afterward became a radio jockey. Balan’s second film appearance, alongside Akshay Kumar in the comedy Heyy Babyy, in which she plays a part reminiscent of a modern western, premiered in 2007.
