Achu Rajamani Education

He went to Loyola University Chennai and graduated. Despite coming from a musical background, Achu always wanted to take to the skies. Instead of pursuing a career in aviation, he decided to pursue music full-time. Music director M. M. Keeravani was his teacher in Carnatic classical.

Achu Rajamani Early Life

Achu is the grandson of B. A. Chidambaranath, a music director widely regarded as a founding figure in the modern Malayalam music scene. His father, Rajamani, also worked in the film industry, scoring over a thousand films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. He received his degree from Loyola College in Chennai.

In spite of coming from a musical background, Achu always wanted to take to the skies. Instead of becoming a pilot, he decided to pursue music and eventually became a professional musician. He worked for a time as M. M. Keeravani’s assistant before striking out on his own as a music composer.

Achu Rajamani Career

Achu has programmed the piano for over 175 films and has contributed to the creation of 410 songs. To many of his father’s tunes, he has added piano accompaniment as a professional musician. The Bollywood film Chup Chup Ke (2006), directed by Priyadarshan, was the first project on which he worked as a keyboard player. Kurukshetra, the sequel to the Malayalam film Keerthi Chakra, included his score for the background music (2008). The score provided by Achu was very highly received.

Achu’s big break came after this brief spell when he was asked to provide music for the Telugu movie Nenu Meeku Telusa..? (2008). This was followed by his work on Kurradu, the Telugu version of Polladhavan (the original film was shot in Tamil) (2009).

Achu wasn’t just a composer, but also a playback vocalist. Take It Easy, his song from the Malayalam film Happy Husbands, was composed by M. Jayachandran and was a huge hit that year.
Achu’s first full-length Tamil soundtrack, for the film Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey, was released in 2012. The record was a critical and commercial success, earning it the Grammy for Best Album of the Year. Bujji Pilla and Devatha from Potugadu, as well as Padipoya from DK Bose, were the most popular songs he released that year in Telugu. Siru Nadai and Hey Umayaal, from the 2015 film Urumeen, were featured on the soundtrack and became huge successes. For more than 11 weeks after its June 2018 release, his song Pondatti from the film Golisoda 2 (2018) remained at the top of the radio charts.

Achu’s talents extended beyond music and songwriting to include professional racing from 2009-2012. He also participated in and excelled at sprinting and other sports while at school, earning multiple awards. After 2009, he stopped working in film to focus on his racing career. He had played cricket for a while, too. First appearing in the 2015 Telugu film Gaddam Gang, he quickly became a rising star.
