On May 31, 1943, in the town of Burripalem, in the Guntur region of what is now Andhra Pradesh, the world was introduced to Krishna. Ghattamaneni Raghavayya Chowdary and Nagaratnamma are his parents. Initially, Krishna wed Indira, and then he wed Vijaya Nirmala.

He began his acting career with films like 1968’s Saakshi, which premiered at the Tashkent Film Festival to widespread acclaim. Pandanti Kapuram, in which he starred, was named the best Telugu film of 1972 by the National Film Critics Circle. He has experimented with parts in a variety of genres, including mythical, dramatic, social, cowboy, western classic, folklore, action, and historical.

Krishna worked with a slew of directors, including Adurthi Subba Rao, V. Madhusudhana Rao, K. Viswanath, Bapu, Dasari Narayana Rao, and K. Raghavendra Rao. With Vijayanirmala, he has starred in more than 48 films together, and with Jayaprada, he has starred in more than 47. Krishna, then 69 years old, announced his retirement from politics in December 2012.

The actor Krishna set a new record by releasing 17 films in one calendar year. As many as seventeen films with Krishna in the lead were released that year. There is no other movie star in history who has accomplished so much.

Adurthi Subbarao’s ‘Tene Manasulu’ was his first film. His centennial film, “Alluri Sita Ramaraju,” was a smash hit. “Eenadu” was his 200th film and it was another box office smash. Despite the hype surrounding the release of EVV Satyanarayana’s ‘Telugu Veera Levara,’ which marked Krishna’s 300th film, it ultimately underperformed at the box office.

Krishna is a risk-taking film figure who is famous for pioneering many technological innovations in the Telugu film industry. He is credited with creating the first cowboy movie (Mosagallaku Mosagadu), the first James Bond movie (Gudachari 116), the first DTS film (Telugu Veera Levara, 1995), and the first Eastman color film (Eenadu).

Having starred opposite the same actress in more films than any other actor (after the legendary Malayalam actor prep Nazir), Krishna is in rare company. He co-starred in 48 movies with Vijayanirmala, his second wife, and 47 with Jayaprada, his first wife. Together, Prem Nazir and Sheela starred in an unprecedented 130 films.

He had dual roles in 25 films and triple roles in 7. Together with his brothers Hanumantha Rao and Adiseshagiri Rao, he runs the successful film studio Padmalaya, where he has directed 15 films.
