Story:
Pippa is a fictional account of the lives of three siblings set against the backdrop of the intense 48-hour Battle of Garibpur, which took place on the eastern front of India during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 and was inspired by real events and the war memoir The Burning Chaffees by Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta.
The powerful amphibious Russian army tank PT-76 is the inspiration for Pippa’s title. The Punjabi word for an empty “ghee da dabba” that floats gracefully on water is “Pippa,” and this was the affectionate name given to it.
The film depicts a young Mehta’s coming-of-age as he assumes leadership of his armoured tank squadron and, by extension, Independent India. Captain Mehta rises to the challenge and leads his troops and the Indian nation to victory during the historic expedition.
