Despite her American birth, Sree Leela was raised in Bangalore, India, by her Telugu family. She was born on July 14, 2001. Swarnalatha’s mother works as a gynaecologist in Bangalore. Swarnalatha gave birth to Leela after her divorce from her husband Surapaneni Subhakara Rao.

As a young girl, Leela began studying Bharatanatyam dance. As of the year 2021, she was in her last year of medical school for her MBBS degree, which is the prerequisite for becoming a doctor. Leela adopted two children with special needs in February 2022.

Kiss director A. P. Arjun found cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda’s photos of Leela online and cast her in his upcoming movie. Despite having connections in Telugu cinema, the actress says she decided to launch her career in Kannada-language films because she grew up in Bangalore.

While Leela was in her first year of college preparatory studies in 2017, filming began on Kiss. The movie was released in 2019 to positive reviews and a healthy box office take. Two critics, Sharadhaa of The New Indian Express and Vinay Lokesh of The Times of India, both agreed that Leela made a strong first impression in her portrayal. Bharaate, in which she co-starred with Sriimurali, came out a month later. Sharadhaa of The New Indian Express said, “This is Sreeleela’s second film, and she seems to be getting comfortable in front of the camera, and delivers what the role demands.” Aravind Shwetha of The News Minute said, “Leela is good and holds her own along with Sri Murali when it comes to acting and screen presence.”

Leela made her first appearance in a Telugu film, the romance musical Pelli SandaD, in 2021. A “part to die for,” according to the actress. While the film as a whole was panned, Leela’s performance was praised. The film’s leads, Sangeetha Devi of The Hindu wrote, “looked young and effervescent but lacked chemistry,” making the picture a “costly showreel” of Roshan and Leela.

Leela featured in the 2022 Kannada film By Two Love, a romantic comedy. Sharadhaa of The New Indian Express called her “a treat to see,” and Sunayana Suresh of The Times of India gushed, “Sreeleela steals the show with a role that offers her to be more than just eye candy in a film.” While the Deccan Herald agreed that Leela’s performance was remarkable, they noted that her Kannada pronunciation may use some work.

Leela was courted by numerous Telugu cinema studios after the success of Pelli SandaD. The actress has joined four films in development, one of which is Dhamaka, starring Ravi Teja. She will star opposite G in the upcoming Telugu-Kannada bilingual flick Junior. Kireeti Reddy, the son of Janardhana Reddy, co-starred with Nithiin in a Telugu film directed by Vakkantham Vamsi.
