ALT Balaji Milestone: 42% OTT subscription growth in FY21

Building on the vision to provide best content and entertainment to its customers, ALT Balaji OTT platform announced that it has 42% growth in OTT subscription for FY21. Since its launch, this year has the highest subscription growth. ALT Balaji has successfully charted growth since Corona Lockdown, released many new movies, originals and shows directly on its OTT.

Balaji Telefilms’ Digital Streaming Platform ALT Balaji has registered a 42 percent growth in subscriptions for the financial year 2021. The OTT known for its Hindi shows like Apharan, Married Woman, among others sold 4.7 million subscriptions in FY21 and registered direct subscription revenue of Rs 54 crore as against 3.4 million subscriptions with revenue of Rs 37 crore in FY20. The OTT has plans to add 40 new shows to its catalog which already had over 83 shows in various Indian languages. While digital remained strong, TV and movies were impacted due to COVID-19.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, India’s digital ott market continues to be one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. Like other international streaming players, AltBalaji also has witnessed exponential growth in its viewership in under a year. The streaming platform has an active subscriber base of 2.1 million, and with a cumulative subscribers stands at over 35 million. As per our Q3 FY21 results, 22,000 was the average number of subscribers that were getting added every day in Q3FY21.

We have also done strategic content sharing deals with two large OTT players to drive creative synergies. We will continue to see strong subscriber additions with over 40 shows greenlit. After the initial setback in the first half of FY21 our TV business has shown good recovery in terms of production hours and we hope to maintain this momentum. In the movie business, production for some of the exciting projects are at various stages of completion we are closely monitoring the availability for theatrical releases as well and direct to digital launches. Overall, the business has performed well in very challenging conditions and I am confident we will build from the base created.”
