Dulquer Salmaan Career

Salmaan agreed to play the part of mobster Harilal in rookie Srinath Rajendran’s Second Show (2012) in 2011. Salmaan said in an interview that it was his deliberate choice to make a “unconventional entry with a bunch of rookies” because he believed that “…when an actor debuts, he has to earn the right to be a hero and not gain it through a shortcut route.” The movie garnered mixed reviews. While Paresh C. Palicha of Rediff criticised Salmaan’s performance, a critic for Sify wrote, “… it is Salmaan’s great screen presence and a developed acting technique that makes the movie an engaging watch.” The movie was commercially successful and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Salmaan then acted in Anwar Rasheed’s Ustad Hotel (2012). The movie was a huge hit at the box office and won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. He also received accolades for how he portrayed Faizy. The young and glitzy Dulquer has emerged from his father’s shadow in the part of Faisi, according to Anil R Nair’s article for The New Indian Express. For his performance, Salmaan won his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Theevram, a criminal thriller directed by Roopesh Peethambaran, was his third movie. In 2013, he signed on to appear in Martin Prakkat’s comedic drama ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi, in which he made his singing debut with “Johnny Mone Johnny.” The movie, which came out in November 2012, garnered negative reviews and was a box office disappointment. The song and the movie both enjoyed success. His performance was praised by critics despite the film’s mixed reception.

He also appeared in Amal Neerad’s segment Kullante Bharya in the anthology film 5 Sundarikal, which Sify said: “It is Dulquer Salmaan’s show all the way, and in all honesty the young actor has thrown his heart and soul into his character” (2013). The movie received positive reviews from critics, with Kullante Bharya receiving particular attention. The Times of India’s Aswin J. Kumar appreciated Salmaan’s portrayal of a wheelchair-bound photographer, saying that “… it’s the tale of the nameless woman, ‘Kullante Bharya,’ that lingers with the audience.” Later, Salmaan worked with Sameer Thahir on the road movie Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi (2013). Both the movie and his performance were well received. In Salmaan’s “first love story,” the 2013 romantic drama Pattam Pole, directed by Alagappan and starring Malavika Mohanan, a debutante, Salmaan also played the lead role. The movie didn’t do well financially.
