He and Indian film producer Ritesh Sidhwani founded the production business Excel Entertainment in 1999.

He won the National Film Award for his first feature film, 2001’s “Dil Chahta Hai,” which he wrote and directed. His first film as a producer was 2008’s “Don: The Chase Begins Again” (in Hindi). Don 2: The King Is Back (2011), Fukrey (2013), and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) are just a few of the movies he produced and directed.
