Jeethu Joseph Biography

Jeethu Joseph Education

He earned a BA in economics from Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha after studying at Fathima Matha English Medium School.

Jeethu Joseph Early Life

Jeethu was born to Leelamma (a homemaker) and V. Joseph (an ex-MLA of the Muvattupuzha taluk) in the Syro-Malabar Catholic community of Mutholapuram. Jeethu’s father had always pushed for him to pursue an engineering degree, but Jeethu had his heart set on attending the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Jeethu Joseph Career

Beginning his career in the film industry with Jayaraj’s Bheebhathsam, Jeethu Joseph served as an assistant director. His subsequent opportunity to helm a film featuring Dileep ultimately fell through, and he found himself just where he had begun.  During this time, Jeethu was working on Detective’s simple storyline. Eventually, his mother Leelamma Joseph offered to co-produce his first film when he had trouble finding investors. Within a month after the project’s inception, a producer expressed interest and assumed control of production. The 2007 film Detective entered the market. The movie did very well financially.

His subsequent picture, Mummy & Me, was a commercial smash. Although the movie took him nearly three years to make, Mummy and Me was a watershed moment in his career as a director. “Mummy and Me” was my second film, and it was far more difficult than my first. Jeethu was offered roles in similar flicks to “Detective,” but he turned them down. The reason I wanted to make a different movie was that… He had completed one-line scripts for both Mummy and Me and Memories in 2008 but ultimately decided to film the former. Even his third feature, My Boss, did well in theatres. In 2013, Jeethu launched his fourth film, a suspense thriller titled Memories, which was a commercial success.

Drishyam, a drama-thriller starring Mohanlal, was released at the year’s end and was a critical and commercial success. Up until 2016, it held the record for the highest-grossing Malayalam film, and it was the first to earn more than 50 crore rupees at the box office.  Jeethu remade Drishyam in Tamil, starring Kamal Haasan in the role originally played by Mohanlal. Other directors adapted it into Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi as well. The following film Jeethu directed was Life of Josutty, which starred Dileep.
