Johny Antony Biography

Johny Antony Education

He attended Nedumkunnam’s St. John the Baptist High School for his junior and senior years before moving on to Changanassery’s NSS College for his senior year.

Johny Antony Early Life

Johny Antony is an Indian film director. He was born to C. J. Antony and Liduwa Antony in Changanassery, Kerala. In Malayalam cinema, he is most known for his comedic films. Having worked as an assistant to renowned directors as Thulasidas, Taha, Kamal, Jose Thomas, etc. Beginning in 1991, Johny Antony has been a fixture of Indian film. As of 2002, Johny has been married to Shyni Antony, and the couple has two lovely kids named Aswathi and Lakshmi. He attended Nedumkunnam’s St. John the Baptist High School for his junior and senior years before moving on to Changanassery’s NSS College for his senior year. Johny got his start in the industry as an assistant to the famous Malayalam director Thulasidas in the 1991 film Chanchattam, which starred Jayaram, Urvashi, Jagathy, and Manoj K Jayan.

Johny Antony Career

In Thulasidas’s subsequent films, he served as an assistant director on both the Jayaram and Thilakan and Siddique and Kalpana and Mukesh–starring Ezhara Ponnana and the Mukesh–starring Poochakkaru Mani Kettum. Johny met Dileep while working as Nissar’s assistant on the set of Sudhinam. Jose Thomas hired him as an assistant director on films like Udayapuram Sulthan with Dileep, Captain Raju, and Jagathy and Sundarapurushan with Suresh Gopi, Devayani, and Nandhini. Two additional films featuring Dileep followed Sudhinam, both of which had Johny in an associate directing capacity. Due to their close friendship, Dileep produced Johny’s first film as a filmmaker, C. I. D. Moosa, in which he also starred. It was a comedy that ended up being a huge success at the box office. Kochi Rajavu, Johny’s second film, also featured Dileep in a leading role opposite Kavya Madhavan and was produced by Dileep.

When released, this romantic comedy was a smashing success with audiences. Thuruppu Gulan, starring Mammootty, was the next film he helmed. Johny’s name now appears among those of other talented directors in the Malayalam film industry thanks to this comic picture. His subsequent Inspector Garud film, starring Dileep, was also quite successful. After a string of successful films and early collaborations with Hollywood’s A-list, Johny’s next project featured Vineet Sreenivasan in a leading role. His next film, Ee Pattanathil Bhootham, starring Mammootty, Kavya Madhavan, Jagathy, and Innocent, was a comedy with horror elements, but it bombed at the box office. Thappana, starring Mammootty, Murali Gopi, and Charmy Kaur, and Masters, starring Prithviraj, Sasikumar, Pia Bajpai, and Ananya, were both directed by Johny in 2012.

His suspense thriller “Masters” was a big success and unlike anything he had done before. His 2014 follow-up film, Bhaiyya Bhaiyya, starred Kunjako Boban, Biju Menon, Salim Kumar, and Innocent in another slapstick comedy. It failed to impress audiences and underperformed at the box office. The romantic comedy Mammootty, starring Thoppil Joppan and recently released by Johny, was a huge box office success. Starring not just Andrea Jeremiah but also Mamta Mohandas, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Renji Panicker, Salim Kumar, Harisree Ashokan, etc. For the first time in quite some time, Mammootty plays a Kottayam ‘achayan’ (a slang term for the Syrian Christians in Kerala, particularly from Kottayam) in this film.

Johny’s upbringing in Kottayam could have had an impression on the protagonist. Theatergoers gave the picture a resounding thumbs up, and it served as further proof of Johny’s talent for crafting endearing comedy with no frills. Johny Antony is a household figure in Malayalam cinema thanks to his comedic moviemaking skills and his extensive background as an assistant director on more than ten films. The public is eagerly awaiting news of his next directorial project, and they cannot wait to see what he has in store.
