Mammootty Wiki and Biography: Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail (IPA: [muhmd kui pnprmbil ismjl]; born 7 September 1951) is an Indian actor and film producer who primarily works in Malayalam films. He goes by the moniker Mammootty. Additionally, he has made appearances in English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi productions. He has appeared in more than 400 films throughout the course of a five-decade career.

He has won numerous honours, including thirteen Filmfare Awards South, seven Kerala State Film Awards, and three National Film Awards. In 1998, the Indian government gave him the Padma Shri award for his contributions to cinema. In the 1971 Malayalam film Anubhavangal Paalichakal, Mammootty made his acting debut.

For his elementary schooling, he attended Government High School in Kulasekharamangalam, Kottayam. His father relocated the family to Ernakulam in the 1960s, and he went to Government School Ernakulam there. He completed his pre-degree coursework at Sacred Heart College in Thevara. He received his education at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam. His degree from Government Law College in Ernakulam is an LL.B. He was a lawyer in Manjeri for two years.

On September 7, 1951, Mammootty was born in Chandiroor. He grew up in a Muslim middle-class household in the village of Chempu near Vaikom in the Kottayam district of the present-day Indian state of Kerala. Ismail, his father, had a wholesale clothing and rice business and was also a rice farmer. Fatima, his mother, was a stay-at-home mom. Their oldest son, he was. Ameena, Sauda, and Shafina are his three younger sisters, and Ibrahimkutty and Zakariah are his two younger brothers.

He wed Sulfath in 1979; they had a son, Dulquer Salmaan, and a daughter, Surumi, born in 1982. (born 1986). He lives with his family in Kochi, Ernakulam. Ibrahimkutty, his younger brother, performs as an actor in Malayalam movies and TV shows. Maqbool Salmaan, Ibrahimkutty’s son, is also an actor.

Mammootty Career

Mammootty made his acting debut in the 1971 K. S. Sethumadhavan film Anubhavangal Paalichakal as a junior artist. His first dialogue was delivered in Kaalachakram, a 1973 Malayalam film directed by K. Narayanan, which was his second film. In 1975, he performed in the theatrical production Sabarmathi. He performed in his first leading part in M. T. Vasudevan Nair’s 1979 film Devalokam.

But this movie was never finished. In the 1980 film Vilkkanundu Swapnangal, which was directed by Azad and scripted by M. T. Vasudevan Nair, he made his acting debut. The 1980 film Mela, written and directed by K. G. George, gave Mammootty his first leading role in a theatrical release.

Mammootty portrayed the lead role of a district collector in Shaji Kailas’ 1995 film The King, which had a written by Renji Panikkar. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1997 for the Lohithadas-directed film Bhoothakannadi. Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, an English-language biopic of B. R. Ambedkar that was directed by Jabbar Patel, earned Mammootty his third national prize.

The National Film Development Corporation of India and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment supported the movie. He appeared in movies like Priyadarshan’s Megham and Fazil’s Harikrishnans by the end of the 1990s, in which he co-starred with Mohanlal. Due to the enormous popularity of both actors, Fazil was forced—a first for an Indian movie—to shoot two endings for the picture.
