Mithun Chakraborty Early Life
Gourang Chakraborty (Mithun) was born on June 16, 1950, in Barisal, East Pakistan (now in Bangladesh), to a Hindu-Bengali family. He and his family are currently based in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. Upon graduating, he moved to Pune, India to attend the Film and Television Institute of India. Until the mid-1970s, only a select few knew that before entering the film industry, he was a Naxalite and a close friend of prominent Naxalite Ravi Ranjan. After experiencing some difficulties at home, he decided to leave the Naxal movement and pursue a career in movies instead.
Mithun Da was born to Bengalis Basantokumar Chakraborty and Santirani Chakraborty, both of whom were Hindu Brahmins. His only sibling was killed when an electrical current killed him. He has four kids: three sons (Mahaakshay Chakraborty aka Mimoh, Ushmey Chakraborty, Namashi Chakraborty), and a daughter (Dishani Chakraborty), all of whom he had with Indian actress Yogeeta Bali (Kishore Kumar’s third wife) in 1979.

Mithun Da started his acting career in 1976 from the movie ‘Mrigaya’ for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor. He had roles in over 400 movies. During the 1980s he ruled over Bollywood with the movies like ‘Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye’, ‘Ghar Ek Mandir’, ‘Pyaar Jhukta Nahin’, ‘Swarag Se Sunder’ and ‘Pyaar Ka Mandir’ and since he never looked back in his longtime career. With the release of the film “Disco Dancer” in 1982, he became a major star in India. Till the date, his dance steps of the song ‘Disco Dancer’ is popular.
He did film work in many Indian languages besides Hindi, including Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Kannada, and Tamil. In 1982, with the film “Troyee,” he entered the Bengali cinema business. Over the years, he has collected a number of Best Actor and Supporting Actor statuettes from the National Film Critics Circle. He won the Role Model of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
He’s very successful on both the tiny and big screens, and he does work in both. He was the host of Zee TV’s Dance Bangla Dance reality show and later came up with the idea for Dance India Dance, the network’s most popular dance reality show. He was the Grand Master of ‘Dance India Dance Li’l Masters’. He has also hosted reality series like as Zee Bangla’s “Dadagiri Unlimited,” ETV Bangla’s “Rannaghore Rockstar,” and the Bengali adaptation of “Bigg Boss.” Right now (in 2018), you may catch him on Sony TV’s The Drama Company.
