The actror, who was born in Delhi parents working actors, attended Kendriya Vidyalaya and then Kirori Mal College at Delhi University to earn a Bachelor of Science. His father was a theatrical artist and instructor, and both of his parents shared a deep appreciation for the performing arts. His dad is a Muslim, but his mom is a Hindu. Zeeshan discovered the theatre club at his university, which piqued his interest for numerous reasons. He was at first hesitant to join the theatre, but his parents persuaded him to try out different forms of expression through performing. Following this, he attended New Delhi’s National School of Drama.

It was in college theatre that Zeeshan first began his acting career. After graduating from NSD, he continued his involvement in the theatre community. In the biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica (2011), however, he made his Bollywood debut in the role of the film’s main antagonist, Monu. The film, which was based on the 1999 murder case of Jessica Lal and featured major roles for Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji, was a critical and commercial success. After breaking out on the scene, he starred alongside Imran Khan and Emraan Hashmi in films like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Jannat 2. Zeeshan’s portrayal of Murari in Aanand L. Rai’s Raanjhanaa made him a household name, and he was nominated for several awards for his work.
After a string of similar parts, Zeeshan was cast as Arif Azmi, Shahid’s older brother in the biographical drama Shahid, starring Rajkummar Rao. Two National Film Awards were given to the film in 2014, indicating that critics and audiences alike enjoyed it. He then had a role in Maazii, which was praised by critics despite its lack of A-list performers. His next big role was in the 2015 romantic comedy drama Tanu Weds Manu Returns, in which he played Chintu, a streetwise and ruthless thief who falls for Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu.
In the 2015 film Phantom, starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, Zeeshan played the part of a bloodthirsty RAW agent. The movie was met with mixed reviews at the box office, although critics agreed that Zeeshan’s performance carried a punch.
