His accolades include three Filmfare South Awards, a Special Mention for the National Film Award, and nine Nandi State Awards. He was responsible for producing Ninne Pelladata, the best Telugu film of all time, which won the National Film Award in 1996.
For his roles in biopics, he is also well-known. In 1997’s Annamayya, he portrayed the 15th-century composer; in 2002’s Agni Varsha, he played Yavakri (son of the ascetic Bharadwaja); in 2003’s LOC Kargil, he played Major Padmapani Acharya; in 2006’s Sri Ramadasu, he portrayed the 17th-century composer Kancherla Gopanna; in 2011’s Rajanna, he played Suddala Ashok Teja. Nagarjuna is the son of the late, great Tollywood actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and he has been working in the industry for almost 30 years.
