Thattathin Marayathu, the film he starred in in 2012, was the year’s highest box office success. He was Vinod, the Hindu youth who fell hopelessly in love with the Muslim Ayesha. This was Vineeth Sreenivasan’s second film as director, and it marked a watershed moment in Nivin’s career, making him “the current youth sensation” and a highly sought after actor. That solidified his standing as one of Malayalam cinema’s top actors. Sathyan Anthikad, Rajesh Pillai, Aashiq Abu, and Shyamaprasad were among the filmmakers who extended proposals to him.
Nivin’s first Tamil film was the bilingual Neram. He also appeared in 5 Sundarikal and Sunil Ibrahim’s Arikil Oraal, both Malayalam films released in 2013. As Alphonse Puthren’s directorial debut, the picture was praised for its unconventional storytelling structure. In Shyamaprasad’s An Autumn in London, he played a dashing playboy who was born and raised in London. In the latter, he portrayed the role of Ichcha, a café server, in a psychological thriller. A section called “Isha” in 5 Sundarikal, directed by Sameer Thahir, had him in a starring role.
