Prabhu’s family is traditional Hindu Lingayat. Mugur Sundar Sr. was a choreographer for South Indian cinema. The name “Mahadevaamma” refers to his mother. Prabhu’s brothers, Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad are also in the dance industry.
Prabhu had a fling with Ramlath, one of his dance partners. They had been living together since 1995, when they decided to discreetly tie the knot. Ramlath was a Muslim girl and converted to a Hindu for their marriage. She went so far as to rebrand herself, changing Ramlath to Latha. Vishal, Rishi Raghavendra Deva, and Adhith Deva, three sons, were later bestowed upon them. Vishal, their eldest son, passed away in 2008 after a protracted battle with cancer. After Prabhu admitted the rumours of his affair with actress Nayanthara were true on July 2, 2010, the couple finalised their divorce.
