Raghubir Yadav Early Life
With the Parsi Theatre Company, Yadav has performed as an actor and vocalist in more than 70 plays and over 2500 performances while traveling by caravan, residing in tents, and using makeshift stages throughout Indian villages, towns, and cities (1967–1973). He performed with glove puppets at the Rangoli Puppet Theatre in Lucknow from 1973 to 1974. He appeared in almost 2000 performances at the National School of Drama Repertory (1977–1986), acting in about 40 plays. Additionally, he has contributed to the sets, music, costumes, and masks.
Raghubir Yadav Career
In the decades that followed, he appeared in a number of important movies. He has been in three movies that have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film: Salaam Bombay!, Water, and Lagaan. One of the very few Indian actors to earn the Silver Peacock Best Actor Award at the International Film Festival of India is Raghubir Yadav. In Salaam Bombay, he played the drug-addicted “Chillum,” which was his most well-known part (1988). He performed in Firaaq.
He starred in the 2011 movie Dear Friend Hitler, which derives its title from two letters Mahatma Gandhi addressed to Adolf Hitler to start and terminate World War II in 1939, just before it was about to break out, and on Christmas Eve 1940, after it had already begun. Yadav debuted on television in 1988 as “Mungerilal,” the title character of the show Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne. 1994–1995’s Amaravathi ki Kathayein.
Later, he performed the parts of Haji Nasruddin in Chacha Chaudhary and the lead in Mullah Nasruddin (also spelled Mulla Nasiruddin). He has portrayed the main character in Arjun Pandit on BI T.V.
