She was born Regina Cassandra on December 13, 1990 (age 28 as of 2018) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Her parents are from different parts of India, so she has a rich cultural background to draw on. In addition, her grandfather was an Iyyengar who became a Christian, and her grandmother is an Anglo-Indian Goan. Regina’s love of acting dates back to her days as a child, when she performed in a DD Channel show. She grew up to be a very active and energetic person.
She has studied Bharatnatyam, attended acting classes during her breaks, and done homework while filming her TV shows.

When Regina was nine years old, she began her broadcasting career as an anchor on the children’s channel Splash. At 16, she filmed her debut film, V. Priya’s Kanda Naal Mudhal, which also starred Prasanna, Laila, and Karthik Kumar. Regina plays Latha, Laila’s 21-year-old pregnant sister, in the film, and has said that audiences have trouble believing she is indeed that young and did not apply makeup for the role. The next year, she co-starred in the critically acclaimed film Azhagiya Asura with another Novice Yogi.
After the film’s underwhelming reception, she decided to pursue a degree in psychology at Women’s Christian College in Chennai and wait another year before giving Hollywood another shot. She also appeared in a number of short films during her sabbatical.
And when she was 14 years old, she skipped out for two weeks to star in a movie that bombed at the box office. At the age of 15, she grabbed the pivotal role of a 21-year old pregnant girl “Latha” in V. Priya’s Tamil romantic comedy film Kanda Naal Mudhal (2005), which proved to be a blockbuster.
She got the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut Actress in Tatineni Satya’s romantic comedy film Shiva Manasulo Shruti (2012).
She attended Women’s Christian College in Chennai to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology while also pursuing a career in movies. She debuted in Bollywood this year with the Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla and Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao vehicle Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
