In an interview with The Hindu from 2013, Balaji explained that his “mother just cannot stay in one place,” so he moved around Chennai 24 times as a child and attended 11 different schools. His master’s degree in journalism delayed, he enrolled at Amrita School of Communication in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Balaji entered this world on June 20th and grew up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is the oldest of four children; his younger brother and three sisters are all under the age of 10. Eventually, his father, he said, he just up and left the family.

He would like to be a journalist, but for various reasons he is unable to do so at this time. He was flipping through the newspaper when he came across an advertisement for a radio station; he applied for the position of RJ and was eventually hired.

RJ Balaji abandoned his education to focus on his career. His first time hosting the morning show, “HelloCoimbatore,” is also his debut. After working as a radio jockey (RJ) in Coimbatore for four years, he was offered a position at 92.7 Big FM, where he became famous while hosting the evening prime-time show Take It Easy.

To begin his acting career, RJ Balaji provided his voice for the 2013 film Puthagam. Ethir Neechal is RJ Balaji’s first film, and he has already won two awards for Best Comedian: the SIIMA Award and the IIFA Utsavam Award. Both of these honours were given for his work in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. Many other films followed, including Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru, Vadacurry, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, and Pugazh. In addition to these achievements, he stands out as the outstanding social activist because of the aid he provided to the underprivileged and the victims of the Chennai disaster.

Sathya, Sanjaya, Vignesh, Rakul Preet Singh, and Aishwarya Rajesh play the film’s main protagonists, and Balaji gives a voiceover introduction to them all in Puthagam (2013). Both his cameo in Ethir Neechal and his starring role debut in Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru happened in the same year. After a brief stint as a show host, he made an appearance for the audience in Vallinam (2014). The 2014 film Vaayai Moodi Pesavum marked his second performance in a movie that year.

Idhu Enna Maayam, Yatchan, and Naanum Rowdy Dhaan were all 2015 films in which he had a role. Balaji won the SIIMA Award for Best Comedian for his work in Naanum Rowdydhaan. As well as acting and singing in the 2016 films Jil Jung Juk and Pugazh, he also wrote the lyrics for the film’s theme song. Balaji uses a voiceover in Muthina Kathirika (2016) to introduce the main characters, notably Muthupandi (Sundar C.). After Devi, he was in 2016’s Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru, 2017’s Kaatru Veliyidai, 2017’s Spyder, and 2017’s Kee (2017). With LKG, RJ Balaji achieved legendary status (2019). In Tamil Nadu, the film has become a major financial success.  His first feature film as a filmmaker will star Nayanthara in 2020’s Mookuthi Amman.  Following this, he starred in and directed the comedy-drama Veetla Vishesham (2022), an adaptation of the 2018 Hindi hit film Badhaai Ho.
