Santosh is a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India and the most decorated Director of Photography in India, having worked on 45 narrative features and 41 documentaries.

In 1988, for his film The Story of Tiblu, Santosh received his first National Award as a director. The 43rd Annual National Picture Awards recognised his film Halo with the Best Children’s Film and Best Sound prizes.

Santosh broke new ground when he joined the ASC as the first cinematographer from the Asia-Pacific area. He has won five National Film Awards as a cinematographer, including four for Best Feature Film Cinematography. To date (as of 2014), his work has garnered him a total of 22 accolades: 11 from the National Film Critics Circle and another 11 from around the world. For his work in the field of Indian cinema, he was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2014.

Santosh Sivan is a renowned cinematographer who has made a name for himself in the South Indian film industry, particularly in Malayalam cinema. He co-founded the Indian Society of Cinematographers and has won eleven national film awards in addition to numerous international accolades. Over the course of more than 30 years, Santosh has appeared in over 40 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. His first film role was in Nidhyiude Katha (1986).
