Selvaraghavan Early Life
He was born on March 5, 1977, to film director Kasthuri Raja and Vijayalakshmi; his brother, Dhanush, is also an actor, and his sisters, both physicians, are also his biological relatives. He lost an eye at a young age to retinal cancer, and after college he tried to get various producers to back his scriptwriting but was always turned down. When Selvaraghavan’s father lost his job in the early 2000s, the family was forced to make tough financial decisions. They decided to put what little savings they had into a film he had written, Thulluvadho Ilamai.

Despite being born into a family involved in the film industry, Selvaraghavan and his sisters were encouraged by their parents to pursue academic careers. Then he continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Engineering. despite his lacklustre academic achievement and the fact that he knows he was “never going to become one of the finest” in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating from college in 1997, he tried to get producers to finance his script writing, but was unsuccessful and spent a lot of time at home as a newly minted graduate with no job prospects. Due to financial difficulties brought on by his father’s unemployment in the early 2000s, Selvaraghavan’s family invested in a project he had written named Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002).
The film told the coming-of-age narrative of six high school students and included a blockbuster soundtrack by Yuvan Shankar Raja; it also starred his brother Dhanush in his first role, alongside Sherin and Abhinay. After a slow start, the film’s adolescent themes began drawing crowds to theatres; it was also promoted in some circles as a “soft porn” film. After its release, Selvaraghavan claimed he had also directed the film, but had to credit his more established film-maker father Kasthuri Raja as the sole director to help the project find a distributor. [10] The movie went on to become a sleeper hit and receive positive reviews for subverting expectations about Tamil films.
They were able to pay off their debts because to the huge success of their 2002 picture. His follow-up, 7G Rainbow Colony, was another commercially successful romantic drama. Even though Selvaraghavan’s first two films did well in the box office, his third, the gangster film Puthupettai (2006), was mostly overlooked upon its initial release. His breakout role in the action film Aayirathil Oruvan, which also starred Karthi, Reema Sen, and Andrea Jeremiah, is mostly credited with catapulting him to stardom.

With the film Beast (2022), in which he co-starred with Vijay, he entered the film industry. He co-starred with Keerthy Suresh as the film’s protagonist in Saani Kaayidham.
