He started his career as an accountant at the Le Meridien hotel in Delhi and later moved into the advertising profession. After going to the Delhi International Film Festival, he decided he wanted to work in the film industry. The American documentary Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam and the Indian film Pather Panchali by Satyajit Ray were the two films that influenced him to pursue a career in filmmaking. Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra, and Ashish Vidyarthi were all part of the theatre ensemble that Sircar founded in the early 1990s and called Act One.

He has also voiced ads for numerous companies on television, including Saffola, Apsara Pencils, Cadbury, Maruti WagonR, Dove, Fair & Lovely, and Zomato.
