Born on April 23, 1974, in Chandigarh, India, her father served in the Indian Air Force, so the family moved frequently to different locations such as Kerala, Pathankot, Pune, and Allahabad. She was born and raised in Valanchery, Malappuram district, Kerala, India. She always had a passion for the stage and the runway. As a result of her enormous acting success, she was cast in the first season of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss Malayalam, hosted by Mohanlal.
She was born to Malayali parents and raised in a middle-class Hindu family. Her mother, Sarada Menon, is a stay-at-home mom, and her father, T. V. Narayanankutti, was a flight lieutenant in the Air Force. She is related to Anoop Menon, the well-known actor from Malayalam. Shweta married actor and writer Bobby Bhonsle in 2004; however, their marriage did not last, and they divorced the following year, in 2007. Later, on June 18, 2011, she wed journalist Sreevalsan Menon; the couple welcomed a daughter, Sabaina Menon, in 2012.

Due to her father’s frequent transfers, she attended a variety of schools, one of which was Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, East Hill, Kozhikode, Kerala. She first appeared on screen as Catherine in the 1991 Malayalam film Anaswaram. She entered numerous pageants during that time, eventually winning the title of Miss Bangalore.
After competing in the Miss India pageant in 1994, Shweta placed second, behind winner Sushmita Sen and first runner-up Aishwarya Rai. Later that year, she made history by becoming the first female Gladrags Super Model. Following that, she was frequently invited to walk alongside top models. She has even directed numerous productions involving them.
