Sony LIV, a premium video on demand (VOD) service platform backed by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) is about to enter in Tamil film industry in June 2021 with a big lineup of new Tamil movies. SonyLIV has already set its foot in the Tamil and Telugu markets but with dubbed content. So, the OTT wants to launch in Kollywood with Tamil original content and a wide range of movies, TV shows and sports content.
SonyLIV which was launched in 2013, has a vast array of movies, web series, TV shows, sports and entertainment content across different genres powered by a network of 29 channels under the Sony group. Currently, the OTT platform’s contents are mainly targeted in Hindi, English, Gujarati and Marathi but the company is looking expand its footprint in the south Indian market.
Sony Liv To Make a Grand Entry into Tamil Cinema This June 2021
To mark its entry into Tamil Cinema digital space, SonyLiv launched its first ever Tamil original web series, Aivar, a political thriller in 2019. Now SonyLIV extends its digital footprint in South India with original Tamil contents. Besides, the OTT player also announced the launch of three other originals: Adithi, The Farm and My Marappu and remake of popular Hindu originals such as Pitchers, Tripling and Permanent Roommates in Tamil.
