He is related to Akkineni Ramesh Prasad, the son of L. V. Prasad. His paternal aunt is related to independence activist and filmmaker K. B. Tilak, making him a cousin.

Pizza director Akshay Akkineni is his son. P. S. Keerthana, whose parents are R. Parthiban and Seetha, is Akshay’s wife. In 2002, Keerthana won the National Film Award for Best Child Actress for her performance in Kannathil Muthamittal, for which Sreekar served as editor.

The University of Madras awarded Sreekar Prasad a degree in literature. His father was a Telugu film editor, and he picked up many of his skills from him.
