He was an avid student, moviegoer, and cricket player from a young age. He has been performing on stage since he was a young child and has attended Sheth Chunilal Damodardas Barfivala High School and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in Mumbai. Before he went to college, he had no interest in acting at all. He went on an industrial visit to a company during his sophomore year of college after realizing he couldn’t handle an 8-hour job sitting in front of a computer. Soon after, he began joining his father in filming locations.

Wedding festivities took place at Six Senses Fort Barwara in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan on December 9, 2021. The bride was Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif.

He worked as Anurag Kashyap’s assistant on the set of Gangs of Wasseypur. In addition to working with Naseeruddin Shah and Manav Kaul, he has performed in several plays. Acting-wise, he made his debut in the supporting role of young Omi in the 2012 film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. Short filmmaker Vasan Bala cast him as the title character, Geek, in his 2013 film. A Banaras boy named Deepak Kumar, played by Vicky in the 2015 film Masaan directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, propelled him to stardom.
His performance in the film was praised by critics, and he went on to win several awards, including the Zee Cine Award, Screen Award, International Indian Film Academy Award, and FOI Online Awards India for Best Male Debut.
