Verdict

Movie title 19(1)(a) represents the Article 19(1)(a) from the Indian constitution, which gives importance to freedom of speech and expression. Just as the title suggests, movie story is all about the freedom of speech and the expression of one’s feelings towards any situation. Just like all other Malayalam movies, pace of the movie is very slow, yet the content of the movie makes it interesting and characters that were very well designed keeps you hooked to the proceedings.

Vijay Sethupathi who can get into the shoes of any kind of role, once again shows his mettle as an actor. Nithya Menon looks beautiful in simple attires and did a decent job in her role. Indrajith performed well, though the screen time of the actor is less when compared to other two leading actors of the movie. Indrans, Srikanth Murali, Deepak Parambol and all other actors lend their performances as needed.

Malayalam movies are always a treat to watch technically. 19(1)(a) has some beautiful visuals captured by the cinematographer Manesh Madhavan, few locations from the movie are a eye feast for viewers. Govind Vasanatha once again impresses with his Music. Movie has a soothing background music as required for the scenes. Though director In dhu VS is directing a feature film for the first time, she did a good  job in showcasing a simple story with simple making and definitely impresses with her screenplay.
