Movie Verdict

Over the years, we’ve seen several biopics in which a man with big goals uproots his life and moves to the big city, where he faces adversity and hardship on the path to becoming an influential leader and tycoon. Although each biopic deals with a different set of circumstances, this one has a non-traditional screenplay and draws the audience in with a fascinating account of Vijay Sankeshwar’s accomplishment before diving into his life history. The plot is rather standard, but the setup and mood are what keep you watching.

The story really starts in the second half, when Vijay Sankeshwar starts competing for other people’s attention. The major problem with the video is that the scenes are poorly timed, making it look as though the filmmakers are simply taking photographs at random rather than trying to tell a story. The director did a good job of depicting how the greed and politics of other businesspeople contributed to his downfall, but the film suffers from a lack of interest and emotion in a few key scenes. The movie could have been lot better if it had the correct amount of emotion, and it had been positioned effectively in the second half. Nevertheless, the movie does have certain redeeming qualities that will attract a certain type of spectator.

The remainder of the cast does a wonderful job, led by Ananth Nag’s convincing turn as Vijay Sankeshwar’s father. Archana Cottage also has her moments. Sadly, Nihal’s portrayal of Vijay Sankeshwar isn’t convincing enough to make the audience believe in him. To their respective parts, Bharath Bopanna, Siri Prahalad, Vinaya Prasad, Prakash Belwadi, V Ravichandran, Anish Kuruvilla, Ramesh Bhat, Dayal Padmanabhan, and Shine Shetty all did outstanding work.

Rishika Sharma, the film’s director, deserves kudos for igniting the imaginations of viewers by revealing this little-known story Dr. Vijay Sankeshwar, who was awarded the Padma Shri, too has an interesting and motivational backstory. However, while adapting a true narrative for the film, the director must take artistic licence to evoke an emotional response from the audience. Rishika Sharam took a few too many creative liberties in the picture; for example, several of the scenes are overly stylized and marketed to the audience’s sense of humour. However, she did manage to get some of their interest.

Vijayanand is solid technically, save for a few VFX issues. The cinematography, lighting, and framing by Keertan Poojary immediately immerse the viewer in Vijayanand’s universe and carry them along with the story. But Gopi Sundar’s music didn’t click with listeners; the songs might have been successful in Kannada, but the Telugu translations lacked the necessary gravitas. But his score was impressive, and the rest of Vijayanand is a well-packaged biography.

  • Screenplay
  • Art Desing

  • Lacks the Emotion

Rating: 2.75/5
