His parents, M. V. Mani and Sujatha, gave birth to Vinay Forrt at Fort Kochi, Kerala. Vinay Kumar is his birth name, but he decided to go by Kumar Vinay as a respect to India. Suma and Syam are his siblings. The schools he attended include St. John De Britto Anglo-Indian High School in Fort Kochi and Aquinas College in Edacochin. He put in time at a number of different establishments before making his way into the film industry, including a diner, a coffee shop, a medical clinic, and a telephone service. He joined Lokadharmi Theater and participated in their productions during his first year of college. Thereafter, he decided to pursue acting as a career and enrolled as a postgraduate student at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, India. He has been a performer and active in the Indian theatre community for almost ten years. The Government of India awarded Vinay the National Scholarship for Best Senior Theatre Actor (2004 – 2006). He also performs modern dance.
He tied the knot with his research student girlfriend Soumya Ravi on December 6th, 2014, at Guruvayoor. They have a son together.
Vinay Forrt Career
A fellow FTII hopeful named Dheeraj Nandakumar approached Vinay for advice on getting into FTII’s acting programme and informed him about the impending audition for Shyamaprasad’s movie (Ritu). Vinay’s life changed forever when Shyamaprasad cast him in a leading part in his film Ritu (2009). Vinay Fort made his acting debut in Shyamaprasad’s Ritu (2009), playing a little yet memorable role as a gay character.
In 2011, he costarred with Naseeruddin Shah in Anup Kurian’s The Blueberry Hunt, an English film. A notable performance in Navagatharkku Swagatham (2012). Unfortunately, the film did poorly at the box office. Vinay eventually appeared in more films in supporting parts. Starring as Nanmayil Suran in Shutter, he became a household name (2012). The film was well received by critics and audiences and was included at festivals throughout the world. In the thriller 7th Day, released in 2014, Vinay has a significant supporting part.
It was as Vimal Sir in Alphonse Putharen’s Premam that Vinay was first widely recognised.
