He attended St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School in Delhi for his education. He studied at Delhi’s St Stephen’s College from 2001 to 2004. At the Vancouver Film School in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he later completed a course in cinematography.

Shakun Batra was born in New Delhi on Saturday, January 1, 1983. His father has a company that sells devices to ward against mosquitoes. His mother is a kind-hearted physician. Besides a sister, Shakun has a brother. Shubham Batra, his brother, is an architect. There were rumors about Shakun dating Indian director Sonam Nair in 2013.
Shakun Batra Career
After discovering a passion for photography in his adolescence, he began to pursue a career as a wildlife photographer. He began working as an assistant to a few Indian directors in Mumbai, including Errol Morris and Christopher Wilcha, after completing a course in cinematography. He has collaborated on projects with a number of Indian production companies, including Equinox Films, Excel Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., and Dharma Productions. He made his directorial and writing debuts with the 2012 Hindi film “Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu,” which starred Kareena Kapoor and Emran Khan in the major roles.
After almost a four-year hiatus, he returned to work as director and writer on the 2016 super-successful Hindi film Kapoor & Sons. He contributed as an author, director, and executive producer to the Hindi documentary “Searching for Sheela” in 2021. In 2022, the Shakun-directed movie “Gehraiyaan” was made available on Amazon Prime. In the movie, he also contributed as a writer and producer. Has directed a few TV commercials for Google, Head & Shoulders, and Nestle in addition to movies.
