Neeraj Pandey Early Life

Pandey’s early life and upbringing were spent in the city of Howrah in the Indian state of West Bengal. His father, a Bosch employee from Arrah, Bihar, settled the family in Calcutta.

Neeraj Pandey Career

The Dalmia Group’s ‘Legacy Entertainment,’ situated in Delhi, is where Pandey got his start in the industry.

After relocating to Mumbai in the year 2000, he was offered a role in a documentary that was being funded by a friend. Soon after, he began producing newsreels and commercials. After that, he and his coworker Shital Bhatia established a firm called “Quarter Inch Productions,” which focuses on TV shows, commercials, and documentaries. His first feature film, 2008’s A Wednesday!, was produced by Neeraj and Shital Bhatia’s company, Friday Filmworks. The 11 July 2006 train explosions in Mumbai provided inspiration for the film’s screenplay.

Pandey produced the 2011 movie Taryanche Bait. Pandey’s second film, Special 26, was released in 2013 and starred Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggrawal; his first film was released in 2008. Neeraj is a Bengali film producer who is also fluent in the language. His 2014 film The Royal Bengal Tiger was shot entirely in Bengali. He also produced the Yami Gautam and Ali Zafar movie Total Siyappa that same year. He helmed the 2015 film Baby, which starred Akshay Kumar. The comedy film Saat Uchakkey, starring Manoj Bajpayee, Kay Kay Menon, and Aditi Sharma, was one of his 2016 productions.

Reliance Entertainment, controlled by billionaire businessman Anil Ambani, stated in 2016 that they would be forming a film production company called Plan C studios in partnership with Pandey and Friday Filmworks. The first film for the production business starred Akshay Kumar. The two of you are partners in a 50/50 venture.

Pandey also debuted as a novelist on December 6, 2013 with the release of Ghalib Danger. The movie adaptation of the novel is now in production.

It was in 2017 that he co-produced the highly acclaimed film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, a satirical look at the open defecation situation in India. He also directed the Manoj Bajpayee and Pooja Chopra-starring short film Ouch, which is a Filmfare Short Film Award 2017 nominee.

His subsequent film, Aiyaary, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee, was a critical and commercial failure and marked his first failure as a director. He wrote, directed, and produced this action thriller set on the Indian border under the guise of Plan C Studios. Jai Bakshi (played by Malhotra) and Abhay Singh (played by Bajpayee) were the two main protagonists. After their initial collaboration on A Wednesday!, Naseeruddin Shah and the director got back together for another project. A number of his other films have also had a similar topic, and this one was no exception; it was based on genuine events.

On Hotstar in March of 2020, Pandey introduced and directed his debut web series, Special Ops. The eight-part series, the debut offering from Friday Storytellers (the digital division of Friday Filmworks), was hailed by reviewers as a triumph.

He’s currently producing his next picture, titled Chanakya, and it’ll be a feature length film. He’ll be working with Ajay Devgn for the first time in this role.
