He attended DAV Higher Secondary School in Shimla’s Lakkar Bazar neighbourhood. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Economics from Government College, Himachal Pradesh University. The first thing he learned in 1974 at Panjab University, where he enrolled to study Drama, was how to pour tea. After graduating with honours from Punjab University’s Theatre programme, he was accepted into Delhi’s National School of Drama (NSD). Both Anupam and the seasoned actor Satish Kaushik attended New School for Drama together.

On March 7, 1955 (age 67 as of 2022), Anupam Kher was born in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.  Anupam was recognised as the Best Actor at the Himachal Pradesh University after his involvement in several theatre productions. During that time, he went to a walk-in audition for a scholarship for 200 Indian rupees at the Department of Indian Theatre at Panjab University in Chandigarh.

A graduate of the National School of Drama, Anupam is presently a lecturer at Lucknow’s Bhartendu Drama Centre. After moving to Mumbai on June 3, 1981, he began his acting career. Anupam was the head of both the National School of Drama and the Central Board of Film Certification. His obligations to a U.S.-based worldwide television show forced him to leave as FTII Chairman.

Anupam’s parents, Pushkarnath Kher and Dulari Kher, are members of the religious minority Pandit in Kashmir. His dad worked in the Forest Service as a clerk, while mom stays at home to raise him. His older brother is the actor and director Raju Kher. Anupam married Madhumalti Kapoor, an actress, in an arranged marriage in 1979. Things with Madhumalati did not work out, however, and he eventually divorced her. Anupam met his future wife, Kirron Kher, while performing with the Chandigarh Theatre Group, and the two eventually tied the knot in 1985. Kirron’s kid Sikandar is from her marriage to Mumbai businessman Gautam Berry. Kirron and Gautam divorced in 1985, and the following year she wed Anupam Kher. Actor Sikandar Kher.

Anupam Kher Career

Anupam first appeared on screen in the 1982 film Aagman. In 1984, at the age of 28, Anupam got his big break when he was cast in the film Saaransh. In the film, he played a middle-aged Maharashtrian man who had recently retired after the death of his son, and he was 60 at the time.

Anupam was offered approximately one hundred films in the space of two weeks after the success of Saaransh. Trimurtulu was a 1987 Telugu film in which he made his first appearance alongside Daggubati Venkatesh. In the Malayalam film Indrajaalam from 1990, he played a major role. In addition to Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1995), Veer Zaara (2004), and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) all feature him in significant capacities. Kashala Udyachi Baat (2013), Lust & Caution (2007), Gandhi Park in Hollywood (2007), and Tera Mera Ki Rishta (2013) are just a few of the films in which he has appeared (2009).

In addition, Anupam became well-known all over the world for his roles in films like Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Bride and Prejudice (2004), Speedy Singhs (2011), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), etc. In 1986, he played a terrorist and received high praise for his performance in the film Karma.

Say Na Something To Anupam Uncle, Sawaal Dus Crore Ka, The Anupam Kher Show: Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, and Lead India were just a few of the series that Anupam hosted on television. It was in 2000 that he directed and produced the Bengali film Bariwali. Om Jai Jagadish, starring Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, and Fardeen Khan, was directed and produced by him in 2002.
