While his parents were filming in Karnataka, India, Darshan was born to actors Thoogudeepa Srinivas and Meena. Did you know that Srinivas earned the nickname “Thoogudeepa” after starring in the 1966 Kannada film? In Kannada movies, his father frequently played menacing bad guys. The fact that Darshan’s father actively discouraged him from pursuing a career in the film meant that he never had it easy. Before his father passed away in 1995, Darshan joined against his will at Ninasam, a theatre training institute in Shimoga.
Darshan’s sister is Divya, and his younger brother Dinakar is the head of the film studio he co-founded, Thoogudeepa Productions. He attended school in Mysuru all the way through elementary and senior school. He had appearances on a few television programs and serials before breaking into the film industry.
