Deepak Dev Early Life
Deepak Dev was born in Tellicherry, Kerala, however he spent his formative years in Dubai. As a child, he began studying Indian Carnatic music at the Indian High School. Over time, he began focusing mostly on the piano. He organised the Sacred Heart University graduate student rock band, which went on to win the annual “Talent Time – Woodstock” award at the university-wide talent competition. He honed in on music production, and soon was collaborating with stars like A.R. Rahman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Sandeep Chowta, Vidyasagar, Anu Malik, M.M. Keeravani, Mani Sharma, and Adesh Shrivastav.
Devraj Komath and Asha Dev, originally from Tellichery but now residing in Dubai, have a son they named Deepak. Dixit Dev, his younger sibling, is his brother. They tied the knot on May 26, 2002, and Deepak’s wife is Smitha Girijan. Their two daughters, Devika (born in 2003) and Pallavi (born in 2005), currently call Ernakulam home (born 2006).
Deepak Dev Career
Chronic Bachelor, directed by Siddique, marked his debut in Malayalam cinema (of Siddique-Lal fame).
In an interview, he said that “nothing exciting was occurring in my profession,” a reference to his lack of progress in the music industry after graduating from Sacred Heart’s College, Cochin. He tried to sell it multiple times, but each time the buyer couldn’t come up with the whole amount promised, so he ended up having to take the keyboard back. And shortly after the third occurrence, the Siddique-Lal combo called me to have me perform with them in the United States. So that nothing would be lost in the void between shows, they asked me to render some music.
If I ever had the chance to work in the United States, it would have been in a field other than music. Mr. Siddique, at the time, heard me play and advised me to pursue music professionally, saying, “You have good talent in music and you must accept music as your career.” In the end, it was hearing those comments that encouraged me to pursue a career in music. When I eventually returned to India in 1999, I established a new home in Chennai instead of my previous residence in Kerala. Then, a few years later, I met Siddique, and he asked me to do the score for his film Chronic Bachelor, which also happened to be my debut film.
