His hit single “Why this Kolaveri Di” from 2011 was the first Indian music video to amass over 100 million views on YouTube. His company, Wunderbar Films, is responsible for making movies. His film Visaranai, for which he also served as producer, won a national award in addition to the Best Actor prize he had already won. The Filmfare Awards have honored him no less than seven times.

From time to time he gets in the recording studio, generally to make music for his own films. He first met Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan, a lead singer and songwriter, thanks to composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. Both Aayirathil Oruvan and Selvaraghavan’s Mayakkam Enna featured his singing, with the former serving as an introduction to him and his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth.

In 2011, the song “Why this Kolaveri Di” appeared on YouTube as part of the soundtrack to Aishwarya R. Rao’s first feature film. In India, this song’s music video has surpassed all others in popularity. Anirudh Ravichander composed the film’s score and also wrote most of the lyrics. In the films Kannada Vajrakaya and Telugu Thikka, he provided the soundtrack with his performances of “No Problem” and “Thikka,” respectively.
