Indian actor and producer Vijay Sethupathi has worked primarily in Tamil films, however he has also appeared in Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi productions. He has starred in over 50 films, many of which have been commercially successful, earning him the nickname “Makkal Selvan” (meaning “People’s Treasure”).

Multiple prizes have been bestowed upon him, the most prestigious being the National Film Award (2021). Sethupathi began thinking about performing after working as a non-resident Indian accountant in Dubai. He spent the first five years of his cinema career in bit parts before getting his big break in Seenu Ramasamy’s Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010). His breakthrough came with the flicks Pizza (2012) and Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), in which he played the antagonist (2012).

He left his job in 2003 because he was unhappy there and returned to India. After dabbling with friends in interior design for a while, he saw a poster advertising a company that marketed prefabricated kitchens and decided to apply for a job there. He described how filmmaker Balu Mahendra encouraged him to pursue acting because of his “extremely gorgeous looks.”
