Ganja Karuppu Career
Karuppu made his acting debut as a ganja farm labourer in Bala’s film Pithamagan (2003). Because of the role, he was credited as Ganja Karuppu in future films. Later in the 2000s, he became a regular in filmmakers’ casting calls for rural films like Ameer’s Raam (2005) and Paruthiveeran (2007), Sasikumar’s Subramaniapuram (2008), Samuthirakani’s Naadodigal (2009), and Sargunam’s Kalavani (2011). Due to his rising star status at the time, Dhanasekaran cast him in the lead role of the film Mannar Valaikuda. The film on the plight of the fishing community made some headway, but it was never released in theatres.
As of 2012, Karuppu was scheduled to make his Bollywood debut with the Hindi remake of Samuthirakani’s Poraali (2011). Sadly, production on the film never got off the ground.
